Creato has released a new module within its COMPASS® Quality Management System to support client efforts to manage an effective CAPA program. CAPA stands for “Corrective Action & Preventive Action” and is a term familiar to organizations seeking ISO-9001 compliance. ISO organizations must demonstrate a competent CAPA management system in order to be considered for certification as compliant with the ISO quality standard. COMPASS is a project portfolio management system offered by CHC to foster collaboration and improved results from all improvement efforts, whether related to a CAPA or other quality related initiative.
Creato has selected one U.S. hospital and one international client for the purpose of beta-testing the new module. UMC Health System in Lubbock, Texas has implemented the CAPA module in the US, while Lily Hospitals, Limited has been testing the program in Delta State, Nigeria. Lily Hospital is already ISO-9001 certified and the only such healthcare institution in the entire country of Nigeria.
The CAPA management system developed by Creato will enable an organization to track and trend CAPAs apart from other improvement work, and to follow a standardized process in addressing the area of nonconformity giving rise to the CAPA. Through permissions and controls, only certain individuals will have the ability to designate CAPA as resolved. The module also has robust reporting tools for transparency and control.
“We are excited to test this new product as it seems so easy to use. This will greatly simplify how we manage our corrective/preventive actions as part of accreditation,” notes Jennifer Fondon, Director of Performance Improvement at UMC Health System.
“We have been ISO certified for QMS since 2009 and are very excited about COMPASS,” adds Austin Okogun, MD, the CEO at Lily Hospital. “Its CAPA module will bring significant improvement to CAPA management. The savings on paper and time will certainly impact positively on our Organization and it holds the potential to become a key part of our QI experience. We are very pleased to work with CHC on this laudable effort.”
