Usually applied to critical sub-processes, after analyzing higher-level process
Each department involved in the sub-process is assigned its own "lane"
Tasks proceed from left to right

Open spaces reveal when departments are "idle" with respect to sub-process
Looping back only for rework (branching off a decision diamond)

Often created by "shadowing" the actual work
